The Vivant Club

Fine wine, lived fully.

A sketch of friends gathered around a table, pouring wine

Wine has been serious for long enough.

The Vivant Club is a private members club built around fine wine and the people worth drinking it with.

Fewer reasons to save the good bottles. More places worth travelling for.

For the bottles you drink now, and the ones you will be very pleased you bought later.

The club runs on three things.

Three bottles labelled: What we put on. What members put on. The wine that flows through all of it.
Prospective members

Who it's for.

Any resemblance to people you've sat next to is entirely intentional.

Number one

Camille, 34

Lives in
Paris
Often found in
New York, Hong Kong, the departure lounge.
What pays for the wine
Closing the deals her colleagues take credit for.
Most controversial wine opinion
Rosé is serious, and so is she.
Why she's applying
A flat in Paris, a desk in New York, a hotel she knows too well in Hong Kong. Would like the same friends at the table in all three, and a sommelier who hands her the list.
Number two

Freddie, 27

Lives in
Fulham, naturally.
Often found in
Verbier, Polo in the Park, his godfather's box at Twickenham.
What pays for the wine
“Brand partnerships”. Mostly lunches.
Most controversial wine opinion
Champagne is a breakfast drink.
Why he's applying
Has been to Wimbledon every summer since school and never once seen a match. This year he'd like the house, the cellar and the people, and to finally find out what he's been drinking.
Number three

Ludovica, 29

Lives in
Brera
Often found in
Paris, Capri, the back of a taxi.
What pays for the wine
Creative director, by day.
Most controversial wine opinion
Inherited wine is for drinking.
Why she's applying
Her grandfather left her four hundred bottles of Barolo and no instructions. Her uncle has offered to help, which is precisely the problem. She'd rather have a concierge who knows the cellar, and friends who know how to empty it.
Number four

Jake, 31

Lives in
Tribeca
Often found in
Miami, the Hamptons, a group chat about bonuses.
What pays for the wine
Finance. He knows.
Most controversial wine opinion
Most wine bores work in finance. He would know.
Why he's applying
Would like to buy one case properly before he buys ten badly, and drink the returns with better company than the group chat.
Number five

Alexander, 42

Lives in
Zurich
Often found in
St Moritz, London, his accountant's inbox.
What pays for the wine
A family office. The family is his.
Most controversial wine opinion
The best wine in his cellar is the one nobody has valued.
Why he's applying
Owns more wine than he can drink and knows less about it than he'd like. Wants to know what it's worth, what to open, and who to open it with.
Number six

Wei, 58

Lives in
Hong Kong
Often found in
Singapore, Burgundy every October, and as far as possible from salmon chinos.
What pays for the wine
Retired. Allegedly.
Most controversial wine opinion
Most Pétrus is drunk too young by people who should be drinking something else.
Why he's applying
Has taken the same road through Burgundy for thirty years, and keeps sitting beside the same Frenchwoman at the same château. This year he'd like a better car, a new route, and that seat on purpose.
Number seven

Marguerite, 67

Lives in
Mayfair
Often found in
Bordeaux, where she was born, and Cape Town, where she'd rather be.
What pays for the wine
Three divorces, handled beautifully.
Most controversial wine opinion
Decanting is mostly theatre.
Why she's applying
Has been to every château that matters, and would like to arrive at the next one with people half her age who can keep up. She doesn't drive. She hears a gentleman from Hong Kong does.

Seven people, one problem. The good bottles are hard to find, harder to keep track of, never where you are, and wasted on most of the people you know.

So we set one table for all of them.
